Summary

 

This job requires strong analytical and technical abilities and demands fast, but carefully thought-out results. Strong leadership and control of the work process from beginning to end is necessary. The job centers around developing new ideas, systems and technology, and also analyzing and improving on old ones. A high level of expertise is expected and the ability to spot and correct errors is important. Work must be done right and quickly, while always focusing on accomplishing the goal and demanding the highest quality work from co-workers and subordinates. Interest and energy focuses primarily on the work at hand, with negligible inclination for small talk or social involvement. The broad scope of the job demands a factual, direct and authoritative style of communication. Decision-making, though swift, is very calculated and singular, with little reliance on consensus or collaborating opinions.

Management Responsibilities

 

Production Manager responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Daily communication of department goals and key indicators on performance to all team members.

  • Provide a supportive, non-threatening leadership style.

  • Learn and provide expertise on the use of INNERGY ERP software for the production process.

  • Review all finished good items for quality and address with the production team. Help track Cost of Quality work orders through the production process to ensure that problems are solved in the right ways and as efficiently as possible.

  • Address department needs of all team members and remove obstacles that negatively impact the flow of material or execution of daily activities. This should be done with the help of the department team leaders.

  • Document and take actions to continually improve on key indicators that drive department performance.

  • Move team members to different work posts based on priorities of due dates and revenue using the workorder grid and labor kanban within INNERGY ERP software. Collaborate with department team leaders to make decisions based on the strengths of each production team member.

  • Collaborate with department team leaders on how to schedule production work order movement through the manufacturing process using the labor kanban. Make the ultimate decision on scheduling based on due date and revenue priorities.

  •  Track the status of all work orders that are released for production within managed departments, convey impediments to necessary teams and follow up on them until resolved. Discuss the status of workorders moving through managed departments in plant and company meetings.

  • Provide direction on how to process work orders that involve abnormal production situations. Consult with the production engineering team to obtain the most efficient ways of producing a quality finished product.

  • Build relationships with Project Managers and the Engineering team to provide channels of communication on issues with shop drawings and the manufacturing process as it pertains to the managed department scope of work. Communicate these issues to the Engineering team and relevant Project Manager when they arise.

  • Provide hands-on, working manager support at all work posts as a way of building rapport and backfill all positions within the department when team leaders are not available to do so.

  • Backfill team leaders in each department when necessary.

  • Communicate with production team members about attendance and performance while setting clear expectations based on the company attendance policy and disciplinary procedures.

  • Provide oversight of safety in the department and coach team members on proper procedures when needed.

  • Administer a managerial presence to the plant floor at least 60% to 70% of each working shift.

  • Provide coaching to all department team members that will positively impact efficiency and quality of work and develop team leaders to take on leadership responsibilities within their department.

  • Meet with production team members and consult with team leaders for frequent feedback sessions with an intent to encourage development and resolve performance issues.

  • Document performance related issues with employees and report to plant management. Provide disciplinary action when necessary, in collaboration with the Director of Production.

  • Identify opportunities for cross-training employees across departments to create diversified abilities within the production workforce.

  • Ensure that shift schedules are abided by and a timely return to work post is executed by all team members following allotted break periods.

  • Provide an environment in which all team members can contribute to continuous improvement and escalate issues or ideas to the Plant Manager or to the weekly Production L10 meeting.

  • Build rapport within the departments and cultivate a team-oriented environment.

 

 

Education

  • High School diploma, GED, or higher is required.

  • College degree is preferred but not required.

  • Relevant experience can be considered as an equivalent to a degree.

 

Experience

  • One or more years’ experience within the woodworking, manufacturing, or construction industry is preferred.

  • One or more years' experience in a manufacturing management-related position is preferred.

  • Experience with the use of ERP software is preferred.

Language & Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to effectively present information, questions, or discrepancies to Plant Management for resolution

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; mentally, hand-and-paper, and calculator.
